Gauge is our latest import from Hungary and our goofy “baby kangaroo,” famous for leaping straight into the air when excited. She is a daughter of the beautiful late Zoldmali Unicum, whom I had the pleasure of watching grow up since a Puppy during my visits in Hungary the last few years.
Her sire, Zoldmali Extreme—half brother to our powerhouse Java—is one of the most successful Wirehaired Vizsla studs in both field and conformation in Europe. From elite field trial lines, he has long been admired by us, and we feel fortunate to own his daughter.
At home, Gauge quickly wiggled her way into our hearts with her irresistible, clown-like personality. She possesses the laid-back, easygoing, docile temperament we highly value in our breeding program—a true “off switch” that makes her a pleasure in the house year-round.
At just six months old, Gauge attended Pheasant Fest in 2025, spending three full days in the breed booth greeting over 20,000 visitors without ever blinking an eye or giving me the slightest sign that she had enough—representing the breed flawlessly.
Despite her calm demeanor at home, Gauge shows a very different side in the field, displaying all the drive one could want. While waiting on the truck, she makes her displeasure known if it isn’t her turn to run, but once released—on land or water—she is all business.
Gauge has already demonstrated an excellent nose, a strong natural desire to retrieve (often carrying our shoes around the house), and a genuine love for water and ducks. Although her formal training took a back seat during the intensive 2025 Invitational preparations for Grit and Java, she eagerly followed along and—out of pure jealousy—matched the older dogs on long swims, double marks, and retrieves, often performing the same exercises without any formal preparation, learning simply by watching the older dogs. She is already a valued part of our guiding string and is visibly gaining experience with every bird contact.

About Gauge
Working Results:
Gauge sustained a shoulder injury when she was young, which has placed some limitations on her testing. Despite this, she has been actively hunted as part of our hunting and guiding string in 2025. If it were up to her, the injury wouldn’t slow her down at all.
